Chapter 7: Fire
In the Shinto Temple in Crystal Tokyo, Rei Hino is conducting a training session with her daughter Sarah in the temple gym. Rei notices her daughter is forcing herself too hard during this session, and calls a halt to it.
Okay that’s enough for today, she reaches for a towel. But mom, I haven’t quite got this kata down yet, let’s finish it, Sarah pleads. It will just take a few more tries. Rei looks at Sarah with an exhausted look. No, I think you have done enough for today, you don’t seem to be focusing. You won’t be a good fighter unless you focus on your technique.
Sarah gets frustrated at her mothers comment. Of course I am focusing. I want nothing more than to be a Senshi of the Moon Kingdom. The more I practice, and work on it the faster it will come. Rei smiles weakly. You have to have the heart in it in order to get the technique right. What you are doing is the motions without the heart.
Rei goes to pick up Sarah’s work out bag, only to see many manga fall out as she picks it up. Rei gets discussed. Maybe you ought to devote more time, and energy to being focused on your training, instead of reading useless magna!
Rei starts to walk off when her communicator watch beeps. Sarah walks up behind Rei so she can hear the message, it is Pluto on the other end of the communicator. All of the Senshi Council are to report to the Crystal Palace on the Moon first thing in the morning. I will be there Setsuna, Rei replies. Is there something wrong?
There is silence for a moment before Setsuna continues. It appears we have a new enemy and a new adversary. There will be more details in the meeting. Rei nods in acknowledgment. Okay, I’ll be there tonight. Rei starts walking back up to the private rooms of the shrine to get her things, and get ready to go to the council meeting.
All of a sudden Sarah runs up behind her and grabs her. Out of reflex Rei flips her, and Sarah lands on the ground. Oh My gosh! Sarah! are you okay sweetie? I am so sorry I wasn’t aware you were behind me! Rei helps Sarah up and makes sure she is okay. I am okay mom, Sarah reassures her mother. I should have known better. Sarah starts to walk off to grab a shower, but stops and turns to her mother.
Why don’t I come with you? Sarah asks. I know that if the Queen, and the Senshi see that I have improved a lot they will make me a Sailor Senshi for sure. Rei turns on Sarah, Anger in her voice. Sarah! We are not going to argue this point again. When I feel you are ready I’ll take you before the Queen, until then drop the subject!
Taking a deep breath, Rei attempts to speak calmly. Listen honey you’re not ready. Rei smiles as she places her hand on Sarah's shoulder. Believe me, when that time comes I know that you’ll make a great Sailor Senshi. Look after the temple, and I’ll see you in a few days. Rei pecks Sarah on the cheek and leaves.
Sarah watches her mother go, then talks angrily to herself. I know I’m ready, why won’t she give me a chance? Sarah angrily walks to the private quarters of the temple, and gets ready for a nice hot bath.
She is taking her bath when she hears something outside. Now isn’t this just great, I bet mom’s already left, and one of those pesky visitors are looking for somebody to give them a reading or a charm. I hate this life! I wish I could be with dad. At least he travels, meets new people, and see new places.
Sarah gets out of the tub, and begins drying off As Sarah stands up she looks in the mirror and sees a figure behind her. Wrapping the towel around her quickly, she starts to scream, but stops when the figure disappears. Thinking to herself "What is going on?" She looks back at the mirror, and sure enough, the figure is gone.
Then she hears a familiar voice. Sarah? Honey are you home? It’s daddy! Sarah squeals, and she becomes very excited. Half dressed she runs out to see her father. Daddy! Where are you?! Sarah runs out of the bath house to find standing in front of her Yuuichirou. Thrilled that her father has come home she runs to him and gives him a huge hug. Strangely he doesn’t return it. He just stands there.
Sarah looks up at her father. Daddy? What’s wrong? Daddy? Yuuichirou just stands there. Suddenly from across the room another voice catches Sarah's attention. He isn’t real, but I can take you to him, if you wish. Sarah turns around quickly, still not completely clothed trying to make sure her robe is covering at least the important parts. She see's a man dressed in crimson standing by the entrance to the chambers.
The image that was her father vanishes, and with it her joy. How can you do that? Sarah asks the stranger in anger. Who are you? The man steps into the quarters. My name is Enmity, and I am here to help you child. He holds out a his hand. Come with me and I will help you achieve your wildest dreams, I only ask of one thing in return. Sarah considers this for a moment, then answers. Anything!? All I want is to be able to train to be a senshi and be able to see my father. I will do anything to do that.
Enmity grins mischievously. Are you sure? What about your mother? Sarah looks down at the floor remembering her anger at her mothers words earlier. I don’t care about what mom thinks right now. I need to succeed, and I am no longer a child that she can be treated like a baby. Enmity lifts up his arm, and says something in an inaudible chant. Suddenly Sarah drops to the floor screaming, her chest feels like it is about to explode. No!!! I don’t want this!!! Stop!!! What are you doing to me?!?
Enmity grins. Very simply I am activating the mirror shard that has been hidden inside your body since your birth. You will be one of my warriors now. Sarah: Noooo!!!! As Sarah's scream ends she recovers, the evil shard has done its work and has twisted her mind. Enmity Opens a portal and motions Sarah to follow him. Both of them enter the portal to return to his Dark Castle on the moon.
